The resemblance between Mata i Coloma, led by winemaker Pere Mata, and the small Grower Champagne producers in France is no mere coincidence. Pere, once involved in crafting wines and advising larger producers, took a bold step in 2000 to establish his own venture, drawing inspiration from the Grower Champagne model. His unwavering commitment to quality borders on the obsessive, evident in his regular visits to Champagne and even vacationing there. Alongside a select group of small Cava growers, Pere spearheads a quality revolution akin to the transformative journey Champagne has undergone in the past two decades.

In a region dominated by massive producers sourcing grapes from numerous growers, Pere stands out as a modest estate-bottling domain. His dedication extends to organic farming practices, covering 5 hectares (certified organic since 2007) of vines in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia. Focusing exclusively on traditional varieties like Xarello, Macabeo, and Parellada, Pere meticulously tends to the vines, all of which boast an average age of nearly 30 years. Every aspect of his winemaking process is handled by hand, reflecting a genuine commitment to the craft and the pursuit of exceptional quality.
